TIRUCHI: Kollywood actor Bharath stole the show at the annual day celebrations of Pavendar Bharathidasan Institutions here on Tuesday.

The actor received a standing ovation from the students when he climbed the stage, and he greeted them by waving his hand.

In his five-minute speech, the actor said that he could see the craze of the youth and his fans. “I was a student like you and I know the enthusiasm and spirit of students. I was also born in Tiruchi and studied B.Com in New College in Chennai.”

When students shouted and praised him as “Ilaya Superstar”, Mr. Bharath said that there was only one super star for Tamil Nadu _ Rajnikant. I am only a growing artiste. “That's all,” he remarked. Mr Bharath immediately asked the students if they had seen his latest movie Thambikku Indha Ooru which, he said, had received mixed response.

Bharath paid kudos to the Pavendar Bharathidasan instiutions for offering quality education and for providing pre-placement training to the engineering and polytechnic students.

I am amazed to distribute prizes to the toppers in the examinations.

The actor, who is one of the Kollywood's newest heartthrobs and a trained dancer by profession, enjoyed the cultural programmes including various dances performed by the students.

K.Meena, Principal of Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College, who was the chief guest at the function, advised the students to face the challenges in the competitive global employment scenario and stressed the need for maximum utilisation of internet and computer technology for effective learning and updating their various skills.

Prof.Meena also released the souvenir of the institutions and distributed placement orders to the students of Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Engineering and Technology, Pavendar Bharathidasan Institute of Information Technology and Pavendar Bharathidasan Polytechnic College who were selected by various companies through campus selection.

A.M.Raman, retired IAS officer and Advisor of Saraswathy Educational and Health Trust (SEHT), explained the growth of the institutions. V. Kandasamy, principal, Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Engineering and Technology, V. K. Raman, principal, Pavendar Bharathidasan Polytechnic College, Uma Arun, Academic Director of the Pavendar Bharathidasan Institutions, SEHT chairperson Bhanu Raman and others spoke.
