Coimbatore: City Police on Wednesday removed activists of Hindu Makkal Katchi (Hanuman Sena) and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) when they attempted to stage a demonstration against Swami Paramahamsar Nithyananda.

The demonstration was following an expose by a television channel. A group of activists of HMK were removed when they attempted a demonstration in front of Red Cross Society buildings on Huzur Road in the city in the morning while the next group of activists from PDK were removed from Gandhipuram area. Police pickets have been posted in the ashram branch premises of Nithyananda at KK Pudur.

Baby abandoned

A new-born female baby was abandoned at the maternity ward of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital after the mother disappeared. A 21-year-old woman identifying herself to be Ramya (21) of city got admitted for delivery. After the delivery in the morning, the mother was found along with the child. She is said to have given a slip at night. Race Course Police are investigating based on a complaint from Resident Medical Officer P. Sivaprakasam.

Clash in camp

Sulur police are investigating into a case of stabbing of Rajendran allegedly by Ketheeswaran, an autorickshaw driver at the Sri Lankan refugee camp near Palladam along with his father Shanmugam.

Probe on

Pollachi police are investigating into a case of alleged attempt to abduct a girl and her sister.

According to a complaint, Akul alias Rajan (25) of Bihar, working in an iron and metal company near Pollachi, abducted Kanagamani (19) and Usharani (16), both sisters.


City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu on Wednesday ordered the suspension of a woman sub-inspector M. Deepalakshmi on charges of having failed to register case in a road accident wherein the victim was grievously hurt.

According to police sources, Veerasidharthanan (15) was injured in an accident. The woman sub-inspector Deepalakshmi of Traffic Investigation Wing – Central is said to have worked out a compromise instead of registering a case.
