Strictly follow EC’s model code of conduct, he says
NAMAKKAL: District Election Officer and Collector U. Sagayam appealed to all the political parties in the district to strictly follow the Election Commission of India’s model code of conduct.
Stringent action would be taken against those violating the election rules, he cautioned while discussing the poll arrangements and rules with the representatives of all the political parties at a meeting held here on Monday.
The Collector asked the political parties to obtain prior permission from the police for conducting meetings, processions and other poll activities.
The time, venue and other information related to the activities should be given to the personnel at the respective police stations.
The party cadres should strictly follow traffic rules during processions and avoid disturbing the public. Prior permission should be obtained for using public address system from the officials concerned.
The Collector also asked the parties to remove hoardings, cut-outs, banners and posters put up in public places immediately.
If the parties failed to remove the hoardings, the district administration would remove them and the expenses would be collected from the respective parties.
He asked the political parties to avoid writing graffiti and pasting posters on the walls of the Government buildings.
To write graffiti and paste posters on the walls of private buildings, the parties should obtain prior permission from the owners.
Candidates should also avoid speeches that would hurt members of other political parties or individuals, the Collector said.
Senior officials were present in the meeting.
