SALEM: The district administration has temporarily restricted 22 shops in Salem district from selling fertilizers, for violating rules.

The special fertiliser squad established in the district conducted surprise checks in 86 private fertiliser shops and primary agriculture co-operative banks in different parts of the district including Salem, Ayodhyapattinam, Vazhapadi, Peddanaicka- npalayam, Attur, Talavasal, Konganapuram, Panamarathupatti, Veerapandi, Edapadi, Mecheri, Nangavalli, Kolathur, Taramangalam, Omalur and Kadaiyampatti from September 5 to 12.

They also spoke to 102 farmers who purchased fertilisers.

Violations were found in 22 shops and the administration had restricted these shops from selling fertilisers.

Joint Director of Agriculture (in-charge) P. Subramaniam, in a press release, asked the farmers to get receipts while purchasing the fertilisers.

Farmers should not purchase the fertilisers at the rates higher than the price fixed by the government.

Assistant Director of Agriculture (Quality Control) R. Paneerselvam warned that stern action would be initiated against the traders if they were found selling fertilizers at a higher price to the farmers or violating rules pertaining to fertilizer trade.

Farmers could register their complaints regarding fertiliser supply with the Joint Director of Agriculture (0427-2415010), Assistant Director of Agriculture (Quality Control), Agriculture Officer (Quality Control) – 99449-80447.
