CHENNAI: The Assembly on Wednesday witnessed acrimonious moments during the debate on the budget.

It began with A. Rajendran (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) making a reference to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Protesting against his remark, the AIADMK members were on their feet. They demanded that Speaker R. Avudaiappan expunge the remark.

Remark expunged

On the suggestion of the Leader of the House K. Anbazhagan, the Speaker expunged the remark. He also chided AIADMK member C.Ve. Shanmugam for flinging budget documents.

Minister's plea

Agriculture Minister and the MLA's father, Veerapandi S. Arumugam, urged the Speaker not to allow the AIADMK members to conduct themselves in a manner that would violate the traditions of the House.

Mr. Avudaippan explained the rules of the House and called for cooperation among the members for the smooth conduct of the House.
