A car driver was arrested in connection with the recent double murder here on Sunday.

The arrested was A. Kaliswaran (33), native of Mangalapatti in Kangeyam block in Tirupur district and the driver of Dhanushwari, one of the deceased.

The police nabbed him while he was waiting near Gandhipuram mofussil bus stand in Coimbatore on Saturday. They also recovered Rs.50,000 from him. Already, the police had recovered Rs.17 lakh from his sister residing in Ooty.

A special team had been on the lookout for Kaliswaran in Ooty, Mysore, Kancheepuram, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Shirdi, Goa, Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur and on Wagah border. In Ooty, the team had almost come close to him. It had located him in a hotel in the hill station but he had managed to escape.

After preliminary investigation, the police said he spent much of his time in train journey only. He travelled in AC coaches. Dhunuswari (40), a widow, and her relative Senthil Kumar (33) were found murdered in her farmhouse at Balasamudram near Palani on March 22. Dhunuswari’s 13-year-old daughter and Rs.23.54 lakh cash kept in an almirah were missing.

It is said that Senthil Kumar, a married man, was looking after the farm. Her car driver Kaliswaran reportedly objected to their relationship.
