Three of the four kidnappers, who were arrested by the district police on Friday night after a hot chase, were remanded in judicial custody, while one of them has been admitted to the Madurai Government Hospital as he had fractured his leg, while trying to flee after opening fire at the police.

Superintendent of Police C. Sakthivel said the Thirupachethi police have registered a case against N. Satyamurthy (41), (who opened fire at the chasing police personnel) and three of his accomplices under section 307 IPC.

They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Manamadurai on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.

While K. Prabakaran (41), who fractured his leg, was admitted to Government Hospital in Madurai, three others, P. Saravanan (26), Satyamurthy and R. Maharajan (30) were lodged in prison.

The SP said M. Rajendran (40) of Arasampatti, near Kallikudi in Madurai, who was rescued from the kidnappers, has been handed over to his relative, who had lodged a complaint with the Madurai police about the kidnap. He would be produced before the investigating officer in Madurai, the SP said.
