V. Irai Anbu, the Principal Secretary (Economics and Statistics), gave away the academic excellence awards instituted by the Association of Management of Self Financed Schools in Tirupur district, at a function held here on Sunday.

The awards included citation and trophies.

In all, 3,200 awards were distributed at the function to students who performed well in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Plus Two examinations, teachers who performed well during 2012-13 academic year, and to the schools which excelled academically during the last year.

A. Karthikeyan, treasurer of the association, said the Best Schools award in the SSLC category were given jointly to A.V.P. Trust National Matriculation HSS, Thirumurganpoondi; Ponnu Matriculation HSS, Dharapuram; Infant Jesus Matriculation HSS, Tirupur; and Annoor Vidyalaya Matriculation HSS, Vellakoil.

In the Plus Two category, the Best School award went to A.V.P. Trust National Matriculation HSS, Thirumurganpoondi.

Interacting with the students, Mr. Anbu asked the youth to develop personality skills along with academic abilities, in order to excel in competitive examinations.

Collector G. Govindaraj and K. Sumathi, a lawyer practising in Madras High Court, spoke on the occasion.
