The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation has increased its milk-based product sales in the State from Rs. 100 crore to Rs. 150 crore a year.

The federation’s popular brand Aavin sells over 40 milk-based products including butter, ghee, ice creams, cheese and milk shakes.

Dairy Development Minister V. Moorthi, who chaired a review meeting of the federation recently, said that milk procurement which was 20.12 lakh litres a day has increased to 24 lakh litres a day thanks to the Chief Minister’s free milch animal scheme, said a press release. He urged beneficiaries of the State government’s free cow scheme to join the cooperative sector.

He said that the federation provides a lot of technical input services including regular health check-ups for cows and subsidised cattle feed.

“Milk producers must take advantage of these facilities,” he said.
