SALEM: Aavin on Thursday placed under suspension two Deputy Managers (Production) on the charges of dereliction of duty after the management found largescale pilferge of butter from the Salem unit.
The police have arrested a person.
Aavin workers while loading butter in lorries on Tuesday noticed some suspicious movement in the near-by bushes.
A man sprang out from it and rushed out in a moped with a gunny bag. The workers with the help of local residents caught him.
The man was identified as Shanmugam, a contractor in Aavin, and he was carrying 80 kg of butter in the bag.
The police said he had confided that he used to steal butter from the Aavin depot regularly.
After a preliminary inquiry, the management ordered that two Deputy Managers (Production) be placed under suspension.
The Salem unit of Aavin produces 400 tonnes of butter a year. It is transported to the integrated Aavin centre at Chennai.
