Sahitya Akademi’s National Book Week being celebrated
Booklovers from across the town have been visiting the Chambre de Commerce on Suffren Street for the past few days to indulge their passion a bit. They have been entertained by multilingual poetry reading, short-story reading and much more over the course of the last two days.
The Sahitya Akademi is now celebrating their annual National Book Week here, and they have organised a number of activities, along with their annual book exhibition. They have called several eminent speakers to grace the occasion and have planned a week-long programme.
The events started the day after Deepavali, on Wednesday, with Chief Minister N. Rangasamy as the Guest of Honour.
This was followed by a multilingual poetry reading in Tamil, English, Malayalam and Telugu.
On Friday at 6 p.m., there was a short-story reading session with M. Thavasi, Sundara Murugan, Puduvai Ra. Rajani, Kanmani Gunasekaran and Badmabharathi conducting the session.
On Saturday there will be a Mulakat chaired by M.L. Thangappa and finally on Sunday at 6 p.m., there will be a Writer’s Meet chaired by M. Sudharsan.
Through the week, the Sahitya Akademi will be conducting their exhibition, where books are discounted between 20 and 75 per cent.
