With mercury gradually soaring high, it is becoming a treat for tourists to see animals coming out in large numbers from the thick forest covers of Anamalai Tiger Reserve to Amarvathy Dam and water troughs in the vicinity to drink water.

Elephants, deer, Indian Gaurs and monkeys are some of the animal species that frequent the water bodies in the area in large numbers.

Forest officials told The Hindu that the animals came out not only to drink water to maintain the liquid balance in the body but also to take bath that was essential to keep their body heat at requisite levels.

The officials had issued caution to the sightseers not to create disturbances to the animals.
