An awareness rally organised by the Forest Department to mark the World Forest Day did not serve the purpose and just became a formality here on Thursday.

Even as the forest officials announced that the purpose of the rally was to create awareness among the people to protect the environment, about 20 schoolchildren participated in the rally that started and ended at the District Forest Office after crossing the Collector’s office, just 100 feet away. But in a press release, District Forest Officer Sampath stated that 200 schoolchildren took out the rally that went up to MVM College for Women at RM Colony, three km away from the Collectorate.
