TIRUCHI: Placards with slogans, heart-rending and warning, carried by scores of NCC volunteers, including boys, in the city on Thursday should definitely bring about a sea-change in the attitude of those who belittle women.

Slogans such as ‘Save the girl from the grave’; ‘The cry of the female unborn is the agony of mankind;’ ‘The cradle of every birth arises from the bosom of a woman,’ threw more light on the urgent need to sensitise the masses to protect and honour women’s rights.

NCC volunteers from various schools and colleges in the city took out the awareness rally on ‘Save the Girl Child’ and ‘Anti-female foeticide,’ organised by the CO 4 (TN) Girls Bn NCC.

Led by the Group Commander, NCC Group HQ, Tiruchi, Col Benz K. Jacob, they marched down from the St. Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Girls’ Higher Secondary School to the Holy Cross College.

Addressing the cadets, Mayor Sarubala R. Tondaiman, Conservator of Forests Aruna Basu Sardar and the Principal of the College, Sr. Regina Mary appreciated the efforts taken by the NCC officials in organising the rally. The Instructor of NCC, Nansy and a faculty of the college, Jayamani expressed concern over the serious fall in the sex ratio and urged the need for checking female foeticide.

Lt. Col Sanjay Anand administered the pledges on ‘Anti female foeticide’ and ‘Save the Girl Child.’
