Chennai: Some of the mothers laughed recalling fond moments and others cried with happiness but all of them shone with pride when their celebrity children felicitated them at a programme organised by Sri Krishna Sweets recently.
‘Salute to Mothers’ offered leading personalities from a range of fields like fine arts, sports and business to express their gratitude to their mothers for teaching them life’s little lessons. M. Murali, managing director of Sri Krishna Sweets, said the commitment and perseverance shown by the mothers had made their children role models for the country.
C. K. Ranganathan, managing director of CavinKare, said his mother Hema Chinni Krishnan had taught him to always “look ahead.” Poet Vairamuthu’s mother Angammaal had to blink away tears when he spoke on how well she brought him up despite living in acute poverty. Former cricketer Krish Srikkanth gave kudos to his mother Indhira Krishnammachari for her simplicity and for her lessons in religion. Vijay Amritraj called in from the U.S. to express his thanks to his mother Maggie Amritraj.
Others who were felicitated include Ustad Zakir Hussain’s mother Bavi Begum Alla Rakha; Suki Sivam’s mother Gomathi Subramanian; Mohan Parasaran’s mother Saroja Parasaran; Indra Nooyi’s mother Shantha Krishnamurthy, Viswanathan Anand’s mother Susheela Viswanathan; Prema Srinivasan, mother of Venu Srinivasan and Gopal Srinivasan; and Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy, mother of Y.G. Mahendra and Y.G. Rajendra.
