They participate in drawing, essay and music competitions
Udhagamandalam: With educational institutions at various levels observing National Education Day in different ways on Tuesday, the Suverna International Institute of Management Studies (SIIMS) here chose to mark the occasion by bringing the students of the privileged and underprivileged sections of the society closer.
The institute used its students from various parts of the country and abroad to bring members of a couple of orphanages and the Government Deaf School here to the college and made them participate in competitions like drawing, essay, music and rangoli.
Pointing out that such an event was being organized for the first time by the college, its Principal K.P.Anoop told The Hindu that the objective was to provide an opportunity for the underprivileged children to showcase their talent and at the same time sensitise the privileged ones to their needs.
Among those who participated in the competitions were two physically challenged girls.
The programme will become an annual feature, he added.
N.Sathya, an MBA student from Tuticorin who helped organize the event said that the experience has made her immensely happy.
She added that she will make it a habit to extend a helping hand to the needy and underprivileged children.
The participants said that it was a memorable outing for them.
