Being a Saturday, it was a holiday for the students of the Christus Rex Higher Secondary School here. However, in compliance with an order of the management they turned up in their uniforms and returned with the satisfaction of having spent the day in a memorable and useful manner.

The occasion was a get-together of the students who had passed out of the 38-year-old institution and who are now settled in various parts of the country and abroad. While the school rolled out a red carpet for them, the alumnae made the most of the opportunity to record, “we are today what we are because of you.” Consequently emotions of a varied kind marked the occasion. Having perspired to make a mark in life, it is the duty of old students to inspire the present students and ensure that in course of time they also, “stand where we are standing”, said the brain behind the event Koshy George of Kerala who had passed out three decades ago.

Whereas Raghu of Karnataka, who assumed office as the new president of the old students association, said that the past students would not be found wanting in extending a helping hand those looking for jobs, M. Raja, a student of the 1991 batch and Coimbatore-based industrialist said that in improving the infrastructure of the school the old students are playing a significant role. An auditorium is in the process of being facilitated by the alumnae.

School Correspondent R.P. Jayakumar said that such occasions add value to the profession of teaching.

A former principal Bhanumathi Ramachandran said that the school’s contribution in making its students achievers should never be lost

sight of. Some of the present students said that a great deal can be learnt from the past students.
