Noted vocalists, instrumentalists and upcoming artistes will perform in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The December music season in Chennai is part of every music lover's itinerary. Now, Coimbatore is slowly catching up. The September music season of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts seeks to recreate, if not better, the original.

Starting Friday music lovers will be treated to a veritable feast, with noted vocalists and instrumentalists coming together in a musical confluence.


The season starts off at Nani Palkhivala Hall, Mani HSS with a Bharatanatyam performance by Divyatha Arun in the 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. slot.

The evening concert is by veteran R. Vedavalli singing on the theme Thanjai.

From day two, the early evening slot will be devoted to religious discourses on the Sundara Kandam - Part II by Jaya Sreenivasan and Harikatha on Arjuna Pasupatastram, Thiruneelakanda Nayanar and Karaikaal Ammayar by T.K. Kamala Murthy.

Lecture demonstration

Lecture demonstrations on Kamalamba Navavarnam by R.K. Sriram Kumar on September 3 and Shyama Sastri's Navaratnamalika Krithis by V.V. Srivatsa on September 10 are also part of the programme.

Upcoming singers find a place in the 2.30 p.m. to 4. 15 slot while the evening concerts will feature singers Ranjani-Gayathri, Bombay Jayashri, Sikkil Gurucharan, Sowmya, Rama Ravi, T.M. Krishna, Sankari Krishnan, Aruna Sairam, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Akkarai sisters Subbulakshmi and Swarnalatha, P. Unnikrishnan and N. Vijay Siva.


Sudha Raghunathan will perform the concluding concert on September 15.

A violin-flute jugalbandi by N. Rajam and N. Ramani is also part of the festival.
