In a bid to enhance awareness about a major but little-known medical condition relating to varicose vein, blood vessels and DVT problems, the Ooty Press Club, the Sri Abubabaji Charitable Mission Trust and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) joined hands to organise a camp here on Saturday.

Benefits

Inaugurating the camp, Rajya Sabha member K. R. Arjunan underscored the role of the press in taking the benefits of various government and private sector schemes to the people.

He added that the Fourth Estate should always function like a bridge between various groups.

Such camps should be organised in different parts of the district. The Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik who presided, lauded the efforts of the organisers.

Expert on vascular problems Prakash Ramamurthy said that in hill areas like The Nilgiris, many suffer from maladies like varicose vein on account of the hilly terrain and peculiar weather.

Organ donation

The Chairman, IRCS, K.R. Mani said that an awareness programme on blood and organ donation would be held on October 5.

Secretary, IRCS, K. Gopal, proposed a vote of thanks. Over 150 persons benefited from the camp.
