Nine boys from Bihar who had been lodged at Don Bosco Anbul Illam, a home for street children, were noticed missing on Tuesday. On November 8, members of non-governmental organisations and child welfare authorities had rescued the boys, who were working at various places such as tea shops, eateries and bakeries.

After asking their parents in Bihar to come and take the boys with them, all the nine, aged less than 13 years, were lodged at the home. Parents who refused to come from Bihar to take the boys home, had asked Don Bosco Anbu Illam to send the boys by train.

On Tuesday morning, the boys, under the pretext of attending nature’s call went out of the home and never returned. Anbu Illam authorities have lodged a complaint with Ukkadam police. A search is on for the boys. Saravanan alias Saravanakumar (40) of Pudukuttai was killed when he jumped in front of a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus on Mettuppalayam Road. — Special Correspondent
