The First Additional District and Session Judge, C. Padmanabhan, on Tuesday sentenced C. Semali Gounder (80), a farmer hailing from Mathapur near Palladam, to life imprisonment for murdering his son S. Dharmaraj (47) on May 21, 2009.

Additional Public Prosecutor M. Sathyanarayan told reporters that Semali Gounder murdered Dharmaraj by hitting him with a stone along Palladam-Tiruchy road following a dispute between them over properties owned by the accused.

“The court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 on the accused. He will have to undergo an additional sentence of three months if he fails to remit the fine,” he said. None of the family members were present in the court when the judgment was pronounced.

Mr. Sathyanarayan said the police investigated the case on a complaint filed by P. Thirumalaisamy, who is the son-in-law of the accused and also a witness in the case.
