A live demonstration of bread making was the prominent feature of the bakery exhibition and workshop organised by Jenney’s Academy of Hotel Management and Tamil Nadu Baker’s Federation, to celebrate World Baker’s Day in the city.

The two-day event was organised on Tuesday and Wednesday. “We organise this event every year in order to create awareness among the public about innovative products that can be made out of wheat,” said M. Ponnilango, director (technical), Jenney’s Academy of Hotel Management.

A Manora Tower cake was the highlight of the exhibition. Varieties of bread such as multigrain and soya in different shapes were displayed. Models made of flour such as alligator, mermaid, snowman, Mickey Mouse, star turtle, duck and a three-tier wedding cake made out of maida were on display.

A model of Rockfort captured the attention of visitors.

All the items were made by students and faculty of the academy. The event included technical sessions on Food Safety and Standard Act, recent challenges in bakery industry and entrepreneurship.

A film on icing was screened and workshops on making bread, cake, chocolates, and desserts were conducted.

Around 800 children from different schools in the city visited the exhibition, according to Mr. Ponnilango.
