VILLUPURAM: Schools in Villupuram district have recorded a pass percentage of 76.87 against 72.41 the previous year, according to P.Kuppusamy, Chief Educational Officer.

He said that though the results were 4.46 per cent higher than last year, it still fell short of expectations.

At least one-fifth of students used to abstain from classes and hence, could not meet the requirement of 200-day attendance, Mr. Kuppusamy said. Eleven schools had obtained cent per cent results.

The district toppers are as follows: the first three places were bagged by students of A.K.T. Mat.HSS at Kallakurichi, including V.Vinodh Kumar who scored 1,183 out of 1,200; S.Sukesh Gautham with 1,182; the third place was shared by B.Lakshmi Nivedhana and P. Ashok (1,180).

The top rankers in the government schools are H.Sukanya of Villupuram Govt.Girls HSS – 1,131; T.Saran of the Sithalapattu Govt.HSS – 1,113; and M. Sukanya of Thirukkoilur Govt.Girls HSS – 1,110.

The top scorers in the municipal schools are R. Prithiviraj – 1,069, S. Senthil – 1,045 and V. Kuberan – 1,013 all from Villupuram Thiru Kamaraj Municipal HSS. The top finishers of Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools are M.Arshia of Kavarai – 1,049, D. Prabhakarn of Gomukhi Dam – 1,031 and R. Nagaraj of Kavarai – 1,004.

The top achievers in aided schools are all from St. Philomena's Girls HSS at Tindivanam. They are R.Priyadarshini – 1,154, A. Naveena – 1,143 and S.Sudharai – 1,138.
