A six-day-old female infant, found abandoned near an agricultural field at Killikoodu along the Cauvery banks on the outskirts, was rescued by the district officials and admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital on Wednesday. The infant was noticed by Murugesan and his wife Deepa, who alerted the local panchayat president and the Village Administrative Officer. The infant with some bruises in body was later admitted to the government hospital. It was found to be underweight at just 2.5 kg.
It was taken into the fold of the Cradle Baby Scheme in the presence of Jayashree Muralidharan, Collector, Sarathy Ganesan, Srirangam tahsildhar, and T. Mohan, member, District Child Welfare Committee. Based on the information given by the VAO, Kollidam police have registered a case. The baby, after treatment, would be handed over to the approved nodal agency for foster care.
