NAGAPATTINAM: A district-level review meet on the functioning of the Farmers Welfare Board was conducted here at the Collectorate on Thursday.
The meet presided by the Chairperson, Farmers Welfare Board, K. P. Ramalingam took stock of the functioning of the welfare board and oriented farmers on the benefits of its membership.
As of July 31, about 75.34 lakh family cards have been issued in Tamil Nadu with about 1.71 crore members registered. Benefits worth Rs.318 crore have been disbursed to about 4 lakh beneficiaries for various purposes in the form of marriage assistance, pension, compensation for natural deaths, accident compensation.In Nagapattinam, about 2.37 lakh family cards have been issued with about 6.67 lakh members registered with the welfare board.
According to Mr. Ramalingam, the aim of the meet was to create awareness on the prerequisite of membership with the welfare board to avail the benefits under the Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme. According to him, a premium of Rs.517.30 crore has been paid up of which about Rs.375 crore was meant for farmers. “Those eligible applications seeking welfare board membership will be cleared within a period of three months,” he said.
