: More than 6.31 lakh bicycles, worth Rs.196 crore, are to be distributed to school students free of cost all over the State during the current year, Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister A. Mohammedjan said here on Saturday. Addressing students after distributing bicycles in a series of government functions Mr. Mohammedjan said more than 2.81 lakh boys and 3.49 lakh girls would get bicycles. Last year 6.22 lakh bicycles were distributed to 2.77 lakh boys and 3.45 lakh girls all over the State, he said.

Stressing the need for girls children to get education, Mr. Mohammedjan said it defines a society’s progress and development. It was important that every girl received proper education to lead a better life, he said.
