As many as 59 persons in Ariyalur taluk have been identified for surgical treatment during 2012-13, P. Senthilkumr, Collector, said on Thursday.

At the special medical camp organised by the Public Health Department under the Chief Minister’s Expanded Medical Insurance Scheme at Government Higher Secondary School, Kandakudi, Ariyalur taluk, he said of those selected for the surgical treatment, 29 had already undergone surgery.

The rest were ready for the treatment. According to an official release, he pointed out that under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance Scheme, Rs.1.5 crore had been allotted to Ariyalur taluk and so far 961 persons had been granted Rs.98.4 lakh. Besides, 226 persons had been extended eye treatment.

Assistance

As many as 17 persons affected by elephantiasis were being granted an assistance of Rs.400 a month.

Every month, this taluk had 29 medical camps.
