Tuticorin: Fifty-four candidates filed their papers on the final day for filing of nominations for the forthcoming Assembly polls here on Thursday.

Official sources said a total of 105 candidates had filed the nominations for the seven Assembly constituencies. The entire nomination papers would be scrutinised by the Returning Officers appointed for the respective constituencies, on Friday.

Seventeen filed their papers for the Tuticorin constituency, 16 for Kovilpatti, 12 for Ottapidaram, 15 for Satankulam, 12 Vilathikulam, 20 for Tiruchendur, and 13 for Srivaikundam Assembly segment. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 24.

The sources said Elections Observers, Nihal Chand Goel (Srivaikundam constituency), V K Jha (Tuticorin), Usha Titus (Vilathikulam), Kunal Sharma (Kovilpatti), B B Sharma (Ottapidaram), and A N Safeena (Satankulam), reported for duty. Ved Prakash Narayan Singh, EO for Tiruchendur, was yet to arrive at his constituency.
