Railway police seized 50 kg ganja from a passenger on the Gurudev Express plying from Howrah to Nagercoil, on Friday.

The accused, Suryaprakash Rao (28) of Rajahmundry district in Andhra Pradesh, was transporting the contraband from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala, according to Jolarpet railway police. Government Railway Police beat personnel saw five travel bags kept near the bathroom in the general compartment of the train at 7.15 a.m.

They informed the Jolarpet railway police and found nearly 50 kg ganja in the bags belonging to Rao.

When the train reached Tirupattur railway station, the police seized the bags and arrested Rao.
