The Tiruvallur Revenue Department officials have seized 49 sand lorries on charges of violating mining rules and regulations.

According to official sources, the district administration issued instructions to revenue department officials to keep a close watch on violations of mining rules and regulations and also to bring the places of illegal mining activity in the district under the scanner.

Surprise checks conducted

Thus, during the surprise checks conducted by the officials on Tuesday near Vadamadurai lake area in Uthukottai taluk, a total of 49 sand lorries were booked on charges of overloading, non-covering of sand with tarpaulin, over-speeding and illegal quarrying of sand, sources claimed.
