Police arrested 465 members of Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam when they tried to lay siege to SCAD College of Engineering and Technology at Cheranmahadevi in the district on Friday.

Alleging that the administration of SCAD College of Engineering and Technology had illegally occupied 44 acres of land reportedly belonging to a Muslim, members of Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, a Muslim outfit, had announced that the party functionaries would lay siege to the college on Friday.

As the protestors left for the protest venue near Cheranmahadevi from Pattamadai, the police detained 465 protestors including 32 women.

The protestors were later released in the evening.

Denying the allegations, sources in the SCAD engineering college administration said a case pertaining to this land had been settled legally in favour of the college and hence there was no dispute in it.
