Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning to commission 400 CNG-run buses. However, everything depends on the price that the Union government will fix for the compressed natural gas (CNG).

BMTC is likely to ask the government to subsidise CNG if its price is beyond its means.

Anjum Parwez, Managing Director (MD), BMTC, said, “We are planning to commission 400 CNG-run buses in the first phase. Gas Authority of India (GAIL) will supply CNG sourced from the Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline, which is near some depots. BMTC will then call for a tender for buses that can be run on CNG.”
