Four persons, including a college student, have been arrested by the Perambalur police in connection with the murder of two women and a child.
The dead bodies were found in a well near here on Tuesday. The van used for the crime and the jewels for which the murders are suspected to have been committed have been recovered.
According to police sources, Syed Mohammed, a utensil merchant of Ranganagar here, lodged a complaint with the police that his wife, Ayishagani, 60, daughter Maimunkhan, 35, and three-year-old granddaughter Saina, who boarded a bus at Venkatathur (Thuraiyur) bound for Perambalur on January 7, did not reach their destination. (Mainmunkhan’s husband Mohammed Hussein is employed in Saudi Arabia).
On January 8, two bodies were recovered from a well on the Laadapuram Melapuliyur Road. Later, the body of a child was also taken out of the well. The bodies have been identified to be that of the missing persons.
Then it was suspected that they could have been murdered for the gold jewels that these women were wearing. Investigation revealed that when these persons got down at Perambalur they were picked up by a van.
The police suspected that the van, which was recently purchased by Jalaludin, 22, nephew of Mainmunkhan, could have been used for the crime.
Interrogation of the accused revealed that Jalaluddin had committed the crime with the help of three of his friends including Dinakaran, 19, a college student, for the jewels weighing 20 sovereigns that the women were wearing.
The jewels buried on the banks of a river near Thuraiyur have also been recovered and the van concealed in a spot has been seized. Investigation is on.
