TIRUCHI: Thirty eight SSLC top-rankers of 2007-08 batch in Tamil Medium were presented with laptops at a cost of Rs. 11.4 lakh on Thursday by the State Transport Minister K.N. Nehru.
The beneficiaries comprise four students from Government schools and 34 from government-aided schools. Of them, 16 belong to Tiruchi educational district, one to Lalgudi and 21 to Musiri educational district. The laptops cost Rs. 30,000 each.
Mr. Nehru handed over the laptops to the students in the presence of State Forests Minister N. Selvaraj, Collector T. Soundiah, Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan and other senior officials.
This new scheme launched by the Chief Minister is meant to enhance the students’ academic progress. The laptop fitted with a camera and a DVD writer can be operated for two hours non-stop with batteries and with electricity using an adapter.
