Two hundred of them are part of first phase of polling
A total of 375 polling stations have been notified as sensitive in the local body elections to be held in two phases in Vellore district on October 17 and 19.
Of these, 375 polling stations, 200 polling stations pertain to the first phase of polling to be held on Monday. They comprise 34 in Vellore Corporation, 27 in municipalities, 34 in town panchayats and 105 in panchayat unions. Of the remaining 175 sensitive polling stations which pertain to the second phase of polling on Wednesday, 36 are located in municipalities, 20 in town panchayats and 119 in panchayat unions.
According to a release issued by the Information and Public Relations Department, central government and bank employees have been appointed as micro observers to monitor the polling in the sensitive polling stations. These micro observers, who come under the direct control of the Election Observers, have been asked to monitor the various aspects of polling such as adherence to the electoral code of conduct, conduct of mock poll, identity of voters and appointment of agents for the candidates, and send reports to the Election Observers. The District Collector-cum-District Electoral Officer has made arrangements for the videographing of the polling right from beginning to end in all the 375 sensitive polling stations.
A total of 3272 police personnel and special police personnel have been drafted for security duties during the local body elections in the district.
A control room has been set up in the Collectorate to receive complaints related to the conduct of the elections. The Collector has appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise freely and without any fear in view of the elaborate security arrangements.
