As many as 33 librarians were presented the Dr. S.R. Aranganathan Award for their contribution to public libraries across the State, at a function organised here on Monday.

Minister for school education, sports & youth welfare, law, courts and prisons N. R. Sivapathi gave away the awards. Additionally, a total of 12 libraries among district, circle and branch libraries were awarded shields in recognition of their good work.

According to officials of the school education and public libraries departments, the initiative sought to strengthen the public libraries’ network in the State and motivate librarians to perform well and take the benefits of a library to the community.
