The Karur district unit of the AIADMK has been celebrating the 64th birthday of its general secretary, and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a purposeful and entertaining way over the past weekend, refreshingly different from the usual freebie distribution and organising community feasts .
The free health care camp organised by the district unit of the party in association with Apollo Hospitals turned out to be fruitful and worthy for over 3,200 participants who were screened for various ailments.
At hand were 45 medical professionals, including 16 from Chennai and 12 from various districts apart from the local Apollo Hospitals specialists attending on the common man at the camp.
A host of ultra-modern medical testing facilities, including MRI scan, CT scan equipment, and X Ray equipment besides the regular ECG apparatus had been moved into Sri Pasupatheeswarar Girl Higher Secondary School in Karur that got transformed into a modern medical facility for the day.
The Apollo Hospitals for its part apart from providing the service of the medical professionals distributed medicines and drugs worth Rs. 3 lakh to the visitors.
18 branches of medicine
Professionals trained in around 18 branches of medicine including ortho, dental, neuro, general medicine, ophthalmology, gynaecology, and paedeatrics attended to the patients.
Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji, who was the brain behind the move to organise a full-fledged medical camp, expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of the camp saying the party derived satisfaction that world class medical facilities were made accessible to the poor.
“We took the Chief Minister' counsel on avoiding ostentatious and pompous celebration, and instead concentrated on spending the money on a worthy cause. Apollo Hospitals came forward to join hands in noble gesture,” he said.
Referral treatment would be followed up for the patients under the Chief Minister's Special Health Insurance Scheme.
