Sub-centre at Kattukulam relieves villagers of long haul
A veterinary sub-centre at Kattukulam near Musiri was inaugurated on Wednesday, offering villagers a breather from trekking to either Tiruppainjili or Tiruvellarai village, which are about 3 km to 5 km away.
The sub-centre at Kattukulam would take care of the livestock population of about 3,000 at Kattukulam, Udaiyampatti, Chellankarai, Chinna Kattukulam, Chakkarapatti, Thannerpandal, Moovarayampalayam, Melur, Keezhur, Peramangalam, Kuruvikkarankulam and Kaalvaipatti. Speaking after opening the sub-centre, N. Selvaraj, Forest Minister, said the State government accorded priority for the welfare of the weaker sections and agriculturists.
M.Rajendran, Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, said this was the second out of the four sub-stations sanctioned for the district this financial year. The first sub-station, started at Alagarai village near Thottiyam, had gone well with the livestock owners.
The sub-station managed the livestock population of 5,000 at Alagarai, Mullipadi, Manamedu, Srinivasanallur, Tirueengoimalai, Tirumalaiyur, Ariyanampettai, Nachiapudur and Tirumalaiyur. The third sub-station would be opened next week at Koothappar village near Tiruverumbur helping livestock from Koothappar, Bharathipuram, Burma Colony, Jaya Nagar, Ganapathy Nagar and Kailasapuram. Later, Mr.Selvaraj distributed free bi-cycles to 117 students of Tirumariamman higher secondary school at Samayapuram.
