CHENNAI: Thirty bags of rice meant for the Public Distribution System were seized from a load autorickshaw at Neelankarai on Wednesday night.

According to the Inspector of Police, S. Sankaralingam, a special team intercepted the vehicle based on a specific input and seized the bags. On interrogation, the driver, V. Abuvanan (25), told police that the rice bags were loaded by T. Dharmaraj (35) of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar.

The consignment was to have been delivered to some migrant labourers working at a construction site in the area.

“Dharmaraj was in the habit of purchasing ration rice from his neighbours and friends sell it to construction workers at a higher price.

“The vehicle used to commit the offence was also seized. The Civil Supplies CID is investigating the case,” Mr. Sankaralingam said.
