Additional police force will be deployed: Collector
TIRUNELVELI: Revenue and Police officials in the district have been exhorted to provide extra security to around 250 booths, which have been identified as ‘sensitive’.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday evening, Collector R. Palaniyandi, after holding poll-related discussions with revenue, police and corporation officials, said the officials had been asked to prepare a list of voters, who had shifted their house to some other places, left their homes temporarily and who were dead so that casting bogus votes could be effectively prevented.
Moreover, list of booths which witnessed heavy polling during the 2006 Assembly elections was also being prepared.
“Since around 250 booths have been identified as ‘sensitive’ and ‘hyper-sensitive,’ additional police forces will be deployed there to ensure free and fair polling,” Dr. Palaniyandi said.
Asked whether he had received any complaint regarding the erection of huge hoardings on the arterial Thiruvananthapuram High Road, he said he had received telephonic complaints and not in black and white.
“Wait and see,” was the Collector’s reply to the question as to whether he would take any action regarding this violation.
