24 sovereigns of gold recovered

The district police have recovered nearly 24 sovereigns of gold jewellery looted at various places in the district and six two-wheelers by arresting nearly 10 persons in a month-long vigorous investigation.

Anil Kumar Giri, Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur, told presspersons on Wednesday that the police arrested Kalidas, son of Ramalingam, Anna Nagar, Mayiladuthurai, and Gopi alias Gopinath son of Kalayanasundaram of Karuppur, Naducauvery near Thanjavur and recovered from them six stolen two-wheelers.

The vehicles were stolen from Thanjavur town, Ayyampettai and Kumbakonam.

The police also arrested Babu Janakiraman of Veppathur near Thiruvidaimaruthur and Arivalagan of Kantharvakottai and recovered from them 45 grams of gold jewellery .

Muniyandi of Hosur was arrested and from him 16 grams of gold jewellery was recovered. Paswan and Sakthivel of Vallam were arrested and from them 99 grams of gold were recovered. These were burgled in Vallam area. Mathialagan of Guru Vadipatti was arrested and from him 36 grams of jewellery was recovered. The police also recovered cash looted from Thiruneelakudi Temple hundi by arresting Mani and Muruganandam of Sannapuram.
