Environment Minister M.C. Sampath distributed 2,372 laptops to the students of government-run and aided schools here on Saturday.

At a function held in the Town Hall here, the Minister said the Jayalalithaa government had launched many schemes for improving the standard of education in the State.

The laptops were being given to the students to facilitate them to acquire knowledge and also to improve upon their studies.

The students were getting four sets of free uniforms, textbooks, cycles, bus passes and so on. The Minister said the students should avail of the benefits to excel in their studies.

The beneficiary students have been drawn from seven government schools located at Thirupadiripuliyur, Vandipalayam, Nellikuppam, Thookkanambakkam, Parangipettai, Cuddalore Port and Manjakuppam, and from St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School.

District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, Cuddalore Municipal Chairman C.K. Subramanian, vice-chairman G.J. Kumar and others participated.
