A proposal to set up 22 veterinary hospitals is slated to be forwarded to the government by the district administration.
This will be in addition to the 14 veterinary hospitals sanctioned by the government in the last fiscal. This was announced by Collector T.Munusamy while inaugurating the vaccination camp for foot and mouth disease for hoofed animals at Thirukannangudi village at Keezhvelur on Wednesday.
The department of animal husbandry has proposed to vaccinate 2.68 lakh hoofed animals here this month. According to Mr.Munusamythe government has sanctioned subsidy on fodder cultivation. The programme envisages a 50 per cent subsidy per acre against the total cultivation cost of Rs.13,600 per acre. The subsidy seeks to cover distribution of fodder seeds (sorghum seeds of 16 kilos per acre). A targeted 700 acres are slated to be covered under the livestock fodder cultivation programme with a cumulative subsidy allocation of Rs. 47.60 lakh for the district.
