SALEM: The district administration has restricted 22 shops in Salem district from selling fertilizers temporarily for violating rules.

The special fertilizer squad established in the district conducted surprise checks in 86 private fertilizer shops and primary agriculture co-operative banks in different parts of the district including Salem, Ayodhyapattinam, Vazhapadi, Peddanaickanpalayam, Attur, Talavasal, Konganapuram, Panamarathupatti, Veerapandi, Edapadi, Mecheri, Nangavalli, Kolathur, Taramangalam, Omalur and Kadaiyampatti from September 5 to 12.

They also inquired 102 farmers who purchased fertilizers.

Violations were found in 22 shops and the administration had restricted these shops from selling fertilizers.

Joint Director of Agriculture (in-charge) P. Subramaniam, in a press release, asked the farmers to get receipts while purchasing fertilizers. Farmers should not purchase fertilizers at the rate higher than the price fixed by the government.

Action would also be taken against the traders if they failed to provide receipts during the purchase.
