TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board will implement the combined drinking water supply scheme to benefit 22 hamlets in Andanallur block in the district.

Protected water from the Cauvery will be supplied to the villagers under the scheme, to be executed at an outlay of Rs.80.20 lakhs in six months.

Speaking at a function after laying the foundation stone for the programme at Vadakimedu village, near Podhavur in the district, the Transport Minister, K.N. Nehru, appealed to the panchayat chiefs to take maximum advantage of various rural developmental programmes being implemented by the Central and state governments.

The Executive Engineer of the Board, N. Pazhaniappan, said that the hamlets were located in Posampatti, Puliyur, Podhavur and Ettarai village panchayats. The Andanallur Panchayat Union chairman, S. Durairaj, also spoke.
