A total of 219 Pattali Makkal Katchi volunteers were arrested throughout Vellore district on Wednesday in connection with agitations protesting against the arrest of their party founder S. Ramadoss on Tuesday.

Out of the 219 persons, 200 were arrested under preventive sections, while the remaining 19 were arrested for specific offences.

Eight persons were arrested for burning a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus proceeding from Tirupati to Arni at Kolatheri village on the Walajapet-Sholinghur Road on Tuesday night.

The others were arrested for pelting stones and damaging buses in different parts of the district.

One hundred and thirty-two PMK volunteers were arrested for resorting to road blockade and other forms of agitation on Tuesday.

Our reporter in Tiruvannamalai adds: As many as 13 buses in Tiruvannamalai district came under PMK cadre’s attack on Tuesday.

In the intertwining night between Tuesday and Wednesday more than 30 cases of tree cutting and laying them across the roads to prevent traffic movement were reported. However police managed to remove them all immediately to ensure mobility of vehicles in the morning.

Stranded

Night time buses to several destinations were cancelled for the second day on Wednesday.

People were stranded in Tiruvannamalai bus stand as operations to trouble-prone destinations were cancelled after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

More than 160 PMK men were arrested for stone pelting and road blockades across the district.
