Two persons were arrested and remanded to judicial custody for fishing illegally in the Oussudu Lake.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Sathyamurthy told The Hindu that a team of 30 Forest officials and 15 police officers conducted a raid at the lake on Wednesday morning.

They found Suresh (30) and Sathish (24) from Vanur fishing there.

As the lake has been declared a sanctuary, fishing is banned.

The two were booked under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. This offence carries a six month imprisonment.

The department also seized a boat, a catamaran, 50kg of fish and 10 nets.
