Police seized 1,641 liquor bottles during a crackdown on illegal sale of liquor in various parts of the district.

K.S. Narenthiran Nayar, Superintendent of Police, said in a statement that 51 persons were arrested and 45 cases registered. Eleven two-wheelers, five four-wheelers and an autorickshaw were seized from the offenders. On Sunday, 20 cases were registered under section 4 (1) (a) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act. The district administration has promulgated an ordinance against selling of liquor bottles through TASMAC retail outlets in view of civic polls scheduled for October 17 and 19.

Besides, cash of Rs.62, 600 was seized from persons attempting to bribe voters. Five motorcycle were also seized from them. Eleven cases of violation of model code of conduct were registered on Saturday.
