Pollachi: The Forest officials from the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) on Tuesday and Wednesday arrested four persons, including a 25-year old woman, and recovered 140 kg of sandalwood, Rs. 2.25 lakh and two cars in two different incidents.

Recently, the Forest officials unearthed a massive sandalwood felling scam in Mavadappu and Kulipatti settlements in Udumalpet Range of the ATR.On Tuesday, the officials led by Range Officer Veeramani on instructions from the Field Director, H. Basuvaraju, raided Sangilipallam, near Aliyar, and found a gang loading sandalwood logs in an ambassador car. After a chase, when the car was intercepted they found 90 kg of sandalwood in it.

The teams arrested Devi (25) who was in possession of Rs. 2.25 lakh. Two others reported to be N. Venkatram and Kumar escaped. A manhunt has been launched for the duo. On Wednesday, the teams raided a place near the Aliyar reservoir and found three persons Vinodkumar (35) of Kozhinjamparai in Kerala, Vinod Kumar (30) and S.V. Raju (30) of Pollachi running a furniture shop trying to smuggle 50 kg of sandalwood.

The car used for smuggling was seized and the trio were arrested.
