The day-time Superfast Express from Madurai to Chennai Egmore scheduled on Sunday morning (November 7) would carry more than 1,000 passengers in its 14 unreserved coaches. Unreserved tickets for the train could be bought from Thursday onwards from counters in five railway stations in Madurai.

Madurai Division of Southern Railway has appealed to passengers wishing to travel by the Train No. 0638 to buy tickets in advance to avoid last minute queue on the day of travel. The train will leave Madurai at 7.30 a.m. and arrive at Chennai Egmore at 4.20 p.m. the same day.

The passengers can buy the tickets at Madurai Junction, Tirumangalam, Madurai East, Koodal Nagar and Sholavandan railway stations. While buying the ticket in advance for this train, passengers should specify that their travel is for the superfast train scheduled for November 7. The fare for adult passenger from Madurai to Chennai is Rs. 117, Additional Railway Divisional Manager T. Venkatasubramanian said in a statement.

Platform 5: Special counters would be opened at 5 a.m. at Madurai Railway Junction on Sunday.

The train would be stationed at platform 5. Passengers would be allowed to take the new foot-over-bridge to the platform.

Stating that special security arrangement had been made to prevent entry of unauthorised persons, the ADRM said that only those with travel tickets for this particular train would be allowed into the platform. “To avoid touts, not even platform ticket holders would be allowed into the platform,” Mr. Venkataraman, said.

Efforts are being taken to provide an orderly and comfortable travel experience to the passengers.

The train will have six reserved coaches, 12 general second class coaches and two general second class-cum-guard vans.
